The Flagrant Hypocrisy Of COVID Messaging

Nothing makes my head spin out quite like a hypocrite. And on the flip side, I really love when people say what they do and do what they say. Such a simple concept, it would seem, but it is anything but. In fact, this sort of Jekyll and Hyde disconnect is so rampant, I worry that we have lost our ability to recognize when it’s happening.
In my utopian world, people’s actions would reflect their words and their words would reflect their actions. That’s it. That’s all I want.
But in this world, where a lot of things are said, little-to-none of which align with any sort of observable behavior or action, we spend more time trying to guess what is true and real than we do rest in the comfort of knowing who and what to trust.
We talk a lot about the “fabric of this country.” And we talk a lot about the disintegration of that fabric. But what is anyone really doing about it?
I’m not seeing it.
The mainstream media, politicians, and corporate money that funds, rather I should say, buys and therefore owns both, have co-opted our reality.
Let’s start with some of the things we’ve been hearing lately in the daily course of our current existence. I would argue that most people, if not all, would agree with the following statements.
We say we want this pandemic to end.
We say we have nothing if we don't have our health.
We say we want unity.
However…
First, if we really wanted this pandemic to end, then we would have a shot that did, in fact, stop the virus from spreading, because that’s what viruses do, they spread. I’m no biologist, but just being a human who interacts with other humans has taught me this fairly straightforward life lesson.
Plus, we know that we know how to inoculate in the traditional sense of the word, because before this, non mRNA vaccines have proven successful at eradicating infectious diseases. Fine, I get that this is not that. And I get the value of preventing serious illness, hospitalizations and death. I'm all in. But eradication is just not happening here. Inoculation is not happening here. As a result, we are all, all over the place because the national conversation does not match reality, despite the fact that most of us are doing our best to manage exactly that: reality.
Second, if we really cared about health, then we would reign in the fast-food industry, and chemical and tobacco for that matter too. We know what their products do to our health. It makes me think of an incredible display by Mayor DiBlasio last summer when he was bemoaning the class disparities that impaired access to quality healthcare among minorities in New York City. There is certainly nothing suspect about saying this topic warrants attention. But what did he show up to a press conference with? Truckloads of Dunkin Donuts. Possibly one of the unhealthiest things one can do for oneself. His lips were moving, preaching higher health standards, as he gleefully handed out little bombs of sugar, fat and chemicals. Actions not even close to those of someone who is really interested in helping people improve their health. He could have instead used the opportunity to inspire and educate people about how they could better feed and fuel their bodies with food that fortifies their immune system, rather than peddle food that adds to the whole diabetic/obesity leanings of this pandemic.
To top it off, when the poor guy from Sweet Greens (and by poor guy I mean the CEO, Jonathan Newman) merely suggested people eat salads that supply nutrients that would help bolster an immune system that could mount a robust response to all threats, including viral infection, he was assailed. Not such a radical idea, though, knowing what we know about how eating works! Yet the concept of eating foods that nourish the human body, and in turn, strengthen it as a result, was twisted, demonized and radicalized into an insane argument about weight. By merely suggesting healthier eating habits, Jonathan Newman was "cancelled." How does any of that add up?
Finally, if we really wanted unity, then we would listen, period. Not selectively listen. But listen, for real. You may have heard of Kyle Warner. His story broke my heart. He is a professional mountain bike athlete who was injured by mRNA technology. There was a hearing about his case, and others, in Wisconsin. In addition to inviting all the major news outlets, the following individuals were on the invitation list as well:
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin
Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh
Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg
FDA Acting Commissioner Janet Woodcock
HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra
NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci,
NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins
Johnson & Johnson CEO Alex Gorsky
Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel
Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla
BioNTech CEO Ugur Sahin
No one showed. No one called. No one asked any questions. No one wanted more information. No one wanted to help.
Not one person from our government or mainstream media gave enough of a shit to extend a hand to those whose lives have been shattered, careers cut short, families devastated and hearts broken.
Not one person.
Now really, what does that say?
That they should be arrested for the crime of hit and run.
